Bibliographie :
My name is Dr. Mimoun Melliti (36 years old, married and I have 2 children), Assistant Professor of English Applied Linguistics and Head of English Department at Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, University of Kairouan (Tunisia), former Head of Examinations and Assessment Committee at University of imam Abderrahmen bin Faissal (KSA), President of the Tunisian association of young researchers (TAYR), Editor of TAYR Quarterly Journal, and Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy (Advance HE, Great Britain).
I obtained my BA, MA, and PhD from FLAH Manouba, Tunisia. I taught at ISEAH El Kef for a couple of months in 2009 and when I obtained my MA in 2010, I started teaching ESP and General English at the military academy of Foundok Jedid, Tunisia before being recruited as Adjunct Professor by the Ministry of Higher education and scientific research, Tunisia in 2014. Currently I am Head of English Department at Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Kairouan, Tunisia. I used to be Assistant Professor of English at Imam Abdulrahmen University, Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from October 2017 to 2020 where I work as teacher of general and specific English, Dean’s advisor, Department Board member, and Head of Examinations and Assessment Committee of Preparatory Year Program.
I have always striven to be an active and innovative teacher applying the most relevant teaching approaches. Over the past 9 years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to instruct a wide variety of students from various backgrounds in two countries (Tunisia and Saudi Arabia). I have had to prove I am worth my status as teacher, a researcher in applied linguistics, and exams teams’ manager.
In teaching, I believe in eclecticism, being a conceptual approach that does not hold firmly to a single paradigm or set of assumptions, but instead draws upon various theories, styles, or ideas to gain complementary insights into a subject, or applies different theories in particular cases. Through my experience teaching general English and ESP I became convinced that the best way to teach different students with different styles, cognitive processes, and (more or less) cultural backgrounds is to diversify approaches, methods, activities, and tasks.
I would like to mention that I give great importance to teamwork and especially within specialized associations concerned with English learning (like TESOL Tunisia) and research (like TAYR, an association I found to promote research in English studies in Tunisia through conferences, study days, and publications).
I also do believe in the necessity of valorizing good research in English studies
for this reason, I founded TAYR Quarterly Journal www.tayrquarterly.com that helps researchers obtain relevant feedback from peers and get acquainted with the process of writing research articles, obtaining comments, fixing errors, and publishing the results of their studies.
As far as my PhD thesis is concerned, it is entitled “Exploration of research letters in scientific disciplines: Rhetorical organization and emergence among non-Anglophone academics”. With my thesis, I started the process of establishing myself as a specialist in academic writing.
In an attempt to deal with the publish or perish reality, I worked hard on participating in conferences and study days and on publishing my BA, MA, and some parts of my PhD thesis (more details in my CV).
